Weather Decision From HCPSS For Friday Jan 5 2018

BREAKING: Howard County Public School System officials have announced plans for Friday, Jan. 5.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Public school students in Howard County will get to sleep in a little bit on Friday, Jan. 5; officials have announced that schools will open two hours late because of inclement weather.

Morning sessions of half-day prekindergarten and RECC are canceled on Friday, Jan. 5, the Howard County Public School System said in a statement.

Morning child care programs sponsored by the Columbia Association and the Department of Recreation & Parks in Howard County public schools will be delayed two hours on Friday, Jan. 5.

On Friday, people should bundle up. The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory that includes Howard County. Temperatures will feel like 0 degrees to 15 below zero.

During the advisory period, wear a hat and gloves, since frostbite can occur within 30 minutes if skin is exposed. The wind chill advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4, to noon on Friday, Jan. 5.

"With the two-hour delay in effect for Friday, we continue to closely monitor weather conditions and will make decisions regarding delays or cancellations with student safety in mind," Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) officials said in a statement.
