Weather Decision From HCPSS For Tuesday Jan 9 2018

BREAKING: Schools will be on a modified schedule in Howard County on Tuesday, Jan. 9.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Public schools in Howard County will open two hours late on Tuesday, Jan. 9. Morning sessions of half-day prekindergarten and RECC are canceled, officials said.

Morning childcare programs that are sponsored by the Columbia Association and the Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will be delayed two hours on Tuesday, Jan. 9.

The delays come after freezing rain Monday afternoon and evening in the region prompted many schools, including those in Howard County, to close early.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement alerting those in the Baltimore-Washington area that the recent cold snap combined with temperatures dropping overnight would result in ice on untreated roads and sidewalks through early Tuesday morning.

"Use extreme caution if walking or driving tonight, as many spots that may appear wet will actually be icy," the weather service advised.
