Boxing Brawl To Benefit Las Vegas Shooting Victim Tina Frost

A boxing event set for Jan. 26 will hold an auction and raffle to help Las Vegas shooting victim and Crofton native Tina Frost.

CROFTON, MD — Anne Arundel County continues to help Tina Frost, the 2008 Arundel High School graduate and Crofton native who was shot Oct. 1 at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival in Las Vegas. A boxing event set for Friday, Jan. 26, in Glen Burnie will include an auction and raffle to help Frost. She is recovering from multiple facial and brain surgeries as an outpatient after stints at Johns Hopkins Hospital and then at a rehabilitation facility, her family says.

Frost, 28, is a 2008 graduate of Arundel High School. She was shot in the right eye, which doctors removed in surgery in Las Vegas. She had traveled to the country music festival with her boyfriend, Austin, from San Diego, where she works for an accounting firm. Shortly before the holidays her family posted on Facebook that Frost had made another milestone when she walked out of the inpatient rehabilitation hospital and will enjoy her family and friends and some normalcy.

"We will continue therapies on an outpatient basis and she continues to get a lil stronger and better every day," the family wrote on the TinaTough Facebook page. And while the family appreciates all the support from the community, Tina doesn't like being the center of attention, they said in a plea to respect her privacy and feelings.

The organizers of the “Super Brawl of Boxing” set for Friday night at Michael’s Eighth Ave in Glen Burnie will help raise money for Frost's expenses. Tickets from $40 are available by going to Baltimoreboxing.com/events or calling 410-375-9175. Doors open at 6:30 and the first fight is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. This Olympic style boxing card is headlined by a title unification between Maryland State Middleweight champ Deshawn “Soulsnatcher” Chase of Baltimore Boxing and East Coast belt holder Marquis Moore of Salisbury’s Main Street Boxing Gym.

Frost was working as a CPA for Ernst & Young in San Diego but is back in Maryland with her family. While she has made great progress, she has a long way to and a mound of medical bills that will only continue to grow, the organizers said in a news release. To assist the Frost family, Baltimore Boxing will have a 50/50 raffle and silent auction. Those unable to make it may donate via the GoFundMe page established by her family.

"What happened to Tina is incredibly sad,” said organizer Jake Smith in the release. “She was professionally successful and had everything going for her in life. It is a true tragedy what happened to her and all of the other shooting victims in Las Vegas. Baltimore Boxing’s fans have done a great job of getting behind the causes we support and we hope everybody is able to come out on the 26th to help raise money for the Frost family.”

Frost was flown on a medical transport jet and admitted to Johns Hopkins Oct. 15 to continue her recovery close to her family, her mother, Mary Watson Moreland, wrote on the GoFundMe page set up to "cover all expenses related to this tragic event such as traveling, food, hotels, missed work, and caring for Tina."

On Oct. 19 Frost underwent a second surgery to help reconstruct her skull and help prevent infection. She took her first steps on Oct. 13, her family said. By early November she had baked cookies, kicked and thrown a rubber ball, walked the halls without assistance, spoken more words and began eating on her own and painted an eyepatch to wear, the family said online. She underwent further surgeries at Johns Hopkins in November.

To date, $610,380 has been donated on the GoFundMe site to help Frost with medical expenses. Watch for upcoming fundraisers on the Tina Tough Facebook page.
