Schuh: Restore Money to Build Crofton High School
The county executive said leaders must restore budget money to build a high school for the community.

A study that recommends building a Crofton High School – ending years of splitting the community’s students between high schools in Edgewater and Gambrills – earned praise from the Anne Arundel County executive.
Steve Schuh on Thursday committed to funding Crofton High School in its design and construction phase in his next budget and to restore the funding removed by the County Council.
The MGT school facilities study released Wednesday shows a need for Crofton High School and smaller, neighborhood high schools, said Schuh in a statement.

“I am determined to restore the funding for a Crofton High School through the Board of Education’s Capital Budget, and am committed to the priority order set forth in the superintendent’s proposed capital budget,” Schuh said. “With a supportive Council and Council leadership, we can ensure that in three years parents and students from Crofton will be attending a back-to-school night at the new Crofton High School.”

Crofton High School would be the first incrementally new high school in Anne Arundel County since 1982, Schuh’s office said, and has the support of members of the Anne Arundel County District 33 delegation.
“It is great to see that this study recognizes the need to prevent the children of Crofton from being split between two high schools,” said Senator Ed Reilly.
“As a 1985 Arundel High School graduate who has seen the students from Crofton Middle School divided between the Arundel and South River High Schools for almost the last 30 years, it is wonderful to see the Crofton community finally on its way to having its own high school,” said Delegate Michael Malone. “The Crofton High School shall continue to have my ongoing support.”
