Baseball: Dundalk Moves Record to 12-5

Down early to the visiting Randallstown, the Owls rally for three runs in the third, two in the fifth and one in the sixth to record the victory.

The Dundalk baseball team improved its regular-season record to 12-5 with a 6-3 victory over visiting Randallstown on Tuesday, positioning themselves for a second or third seed in the state playoffs.

“All the hard work we have done has been to set us up for the playoffs,” said Dundalk head coach Brian Powell. "Now our record is 0-0. We will find out the draw on Wednesday, but whoever we play, we are ready—our starting pitching is rested and we have won every close game we have played in.”

Starting pitcher Zach Savage allowed the Rams to take an early 3-0 lead with one run in each of the first three innings, but then recorded four consecutive strike outs to end the third and fourth.

Shortstop Zyle Babcock got things started for the Owls in the bottom of the third with a double. Second basemen Nick Petro drove his infield mate in when he ripped a line-drive single.

Savage then added to his own cause when he took a base when hit by a pitch. He was driven in by a Vinny Livingston single, tying the score.

The Owls took the lead for good in the fifth inning when Babcock and Petro both scored, and Dave Defalco added an insurance run in the sixth.

“Last year we went to the regional championship and lost. That left a bad taste in our mouths," said senior catcher Nick Stritch. “This year our goal is to win the region and see what happens from there.”
