Patapsco Named National Magnet School of Distinction.

Patapsco High School & Center for the Arts to be recognized May 17.

Patapsco High School & Center for the Arts has been named a Magnet School of Distinction by Magnet Schools of America. 

School representatives will be honored at the 29th Magnet Schools of America Conference hosted by the Indianapolis Public Schools in Indiana.  School representatives will receive a plaque during an awards ceremony for their selection as a national Magnet School of Distinction winner.

Patapsco High School & Center for the Arts, located in Dundalk, serves approximately 1,500 students in grades nine through 12 from Baltimore County.

The magnet programs, started in 1995, comprise approximately 400 students, who study specialized programs in theater, dance, visual arts, and vocal and instrumental music. The school was selected from among candidates nationwide based on criteria such as desegregation, innovative instructional strategies, student achievement, and parent and community involvement.

“We have an amazing faculty and staff here at Patapsco,” said school principal Ryan Imbriale in a statement. “It is nice to have their accomplishments recognized and celebrated.”

William Magnotta, president of Magnet Schools of America and Dr. Robert G. Brooks, executive director, will present the Magnet School of Distinction Award during the national conference, which runs from May 15-18 at the JW Marriott in Indianapolis. Attendees will include more than 1,000 school administrators and teachers from magnet schools and districts across the nation.
