America Sings can be viewed on Verizon FiOS Channel 224, on Comcast Channel 189 and on DIRECTV Channel 338 at 9 p.m.

The show is hosted by Drew Lachey, former pop singer with 98 Degrees, and the second-season winner of Dancing with the Stars.

The Chorus of the Chesapeake did not audition for America Sings. Instead, producers discovered video of the group performing last year at the International Barbershop Chorus Contest in Philadelphia. The local singers will compete against groups from across the country in the eight-week series for a $10,000 grand prize. The finals are scheduled for mid-August.

"We're a nonprofit, and if we can grab that $10,000 prize, it will go a long way in helping us promote our hobby," said Bill Day, one of the lead singers with the The Chorus of the Chesapeake.

Voting for contestants will be conducted via the network’s website. Each household can vote up to 50 times per IP Address.

In a press release, The Chorus of the Chesapeake asked local fans: “Please VOTE early and often!”
