Annapolis Boy Riding Scooter Hit by Pickup Truck in Cape St. Claire

The boy was taken to Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore with critical injuries.

CAPE ST CLAIRE, MD — A child riding a scooter was critically injured after he was struck by a pickup truck Friday afternoon, police said.

According to police, officers responded to the crash on on Cape St Claire Road near Skyway Drive just before 3 p.m. on Friday. The pickup truck was going southbound on Cape St Claire Road when it struck the child riding the electric scooter who pulled out from a small driveway, police said.

The child, identified as a 13-year-old Annapolis boy, was taken by State Police helicopter to Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore with critical injuries.

Police said the preliminary cause of the crash is the boy's failure to stop and yield to vehicular traffic on the thru roadway. Speed may be a contributing factor but alcohol was not.

The child was not wearing a helmet.

The Traffic Safety Section is handling the investigation and any charges are pending review by the State’s Attorney.

The driver of the pickup truck was identified as an 18-year-old Annapolis man.
