Blessing of the Bikes Coming to Stan and Joe’s Sunday

The second annual event raises money for the Wounded Warrior Project.

Approximately 200 bikers will flock to Stan and Joe’s Saloon on Sunday for the second annual Blessing of the Bikes. The event is done with a local chapter of Hogs for Heroes and will raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project.

Hogs for Heroes is a national organization of motorcycle riders that is committed to supporting public safety officials, the U.S. Military and Wounded Warriors.

Joe McGovern, co-owner of Stan & Joe’s, said about 200 bikers are expected on Sunday and a priest will be there to bless the bikes. The saloon will also donate 10 percent of all sales to the Wounded Warrior Project.

“Both Stan [Fletcher] and I are very proud of our charity work,” McGovern said. “We have done a ton at West Street and now we are getting in a groove here. The good part of being a small mom and pop place is we can help local charities.”

McGovern said Hogs for Heroes hosts an monthly happy hour at Stan & Joes. The saloon will start Sunday’s event with a brunch at 10 a.m. and the bikes should arrive around noon.

While McGovern enjoys helping any local charity he can, groups that support military members are particularly special to him. McGovern’s father served in the Navy during World War II and his brother was an Army Ranger.

“God bless these kids that are going off to fight for our country,” he said. “We just want to do our part to help.”

The Blessing of the Bikes will be held on Sunday at noon and is open to the public.
