Business Roundup: Recent Closings, Openings in Edgewater

In the last month two local businesses have closed while a new shopping center plans to bring more stores.

There has been a lot of business news in Edgewater the last month. A new restaurant opened on Mitchells Chance Road, while Kids Consignments and Jake’s Steaks both announced they were closing.

Despite the closing of two local stores, Patch reported on Friday that , plans to bring more stores to Edgewater.

Real Fire Brazilian Grill Opens

The highly anticipated Real Fire Brazilian Grill finally hosted its grand opening on March 30 and 31—and officially opened its doors to the public on April 1. The opening brought mixed reviews from readers.

Kids Consignments Closing its Doors

Kids Consignments in Edgewater is closing its doors for business on April 20.

Owner Stephanie Mendoza said the store will cease its regular operating hours on April 20, and then hold a sale on April 21 and 22 before closing for good.

Mendoza cited personal reasons and losing the space as causes for the close.

Jake's Steaks Closes April 13

After more than 12 years in the South River Colony Marketplace, Jake's Steaks closed its doors for good on Saturday.

Barb Gossett, who has been a manager at Jake's Steaks for three years, said a lack of business is the main reason for the close.

Churchton Bank of America Closing

The Churchton Bank of America will be closing its doors this summer.

The banking center located at 5554 Muddy Creek Rd. will close permanently on June 7, according to the bank’s website.  A reason for the close was not provided.

Lighthouse Plaza Will Bring New Businesses to Edgewater

A new shopping center on Solomons Island Road in Edgewater will bring several new businesses to the area. 

According to Tracie Reynolds, a spokesperson for Anne Arundel County Planning and Zoning, Lighthouse Plaza is being built at 3145 Solomons Island Rd. and the new shopping center will be home to several new businesses.
