Edgewater Books Opening in August
The owner of the business is seeking high school art students to paint a mural inside the store.

Edgewater Books, a children’s bookstore, will be opening on Central Avenue in August and the owner is looking for high school art students to paint a mural inside the store.
Ken Kennedy, the owner of Language Advantage, plans to open the store at 951 Central Ave. on Aug. 19. Kennedy already does Spanish Story Time programs around the Edgewater area.
Edgewater Books will offer children’s books exclusively along with educational toys and some teacher supplies, which are all services Kennedy said the Edgewater area lacks.

“There aren’t any bookstores of any kind in Edgewater, especially children’s books. The closest for them is in Baltimore,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy spent his whole life around books and said opening a bookstore was something he has always wanted to do.

“I have always enjoyed reading,” Kennedy said. “ I got my first library card when I was 5 years old so I have always been around books. On the last day of school my mom always took us to the library to find new books.”
In an effort to get his store ready for opening, Kennedy is looking for high school juniors or seniors to paint an ocean-themed mural on the walls of the store.
“I am looking for art students that are interested in coming out to do graphics and murals on the windows to make them kid friendly, and then carry the theme of that throughout the store,” Kennedy said.
Edgewater Books will gradually add new programs to the store as the business grows. Kennedy said he hopes to host story times, a summer reading program and will look for ways to give back to schools in the community.
