Edgewater Man Charged In Mother's Death: Police

Aiman Zaharna has been arrested and charged with murder in the death of Zakia Et Al Zaharna, who suffered trauma at her home.

EDGEWATER, MD —The Anne Arundel County Police Department announced Tuesday that it had arrested a suspect in the death of an 85-year-old Edgewater woman, who was pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital earlier that morning.

Aiman Zaharna, 55, was charged with murder in connection to the death of his mother Zakia Et Al Zaharna. The two shared an address, police said.

Through their investigation, police had identified Aiman Zaharna as a person with "first-hand information about the case," and they had put out an alert for his gold Cadillac earlier Tuesday.

According to police reports, officers responded to a home in the 1900 block of Woodsboro Place around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, where they found Zakia Et Al Zaharna with apparent trauma. Medics took the victim to an unnamed local hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Although an arrest has been made, the Anne Arundel County Police Homicide Unit is asking anyone with information regarding the incident to contact them at 410-222-4731.
