Feral Cat Still Missing But School Back to Normal

Labor Day weekend started early for students at one elementary school, but classes will resume as normal on Tuesday.

A feral cat loose in one Anne Arundel County elementary school, which meant an early start to the weekend on Friday, has eluded all traps set for it.

Food left in traps inside Richard Henry Lee Elementary School in Glen Burnie has not been touched by the cat, according to Anne Arundel County Public Schools, and searches of the building have shown no signs of the animal. So, classes will resume on time Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Authorities said the feral cat set off motion sensor alarms in the building Thursday and night and early Friday, prompting the dismissal when the animal could not be cornered. But, sensors have detected no motion inside the building since the motion alarm system was activated about noon Friday.

Typically, the school day at Richard Henry Lee Elementary starts at 8:45 a.m. The feral cat was discovered before Friday’s school day began, according to The Capital. As a result, school officials did not open the doors to students Friday morning due to safety concerns, instead keeping students outside, WBAL reported.

Officials with Anne Arundel County Animal Control have been tried to capture the cat and set traps for it.
