Locals Prepare to Shave Heads for Cancer Research

As part of the St. Baldrick's Foundation, people will shave their heads to raise funds for childhood cancer research.

Two local boys are shaving their heads on Sunday as part of a fundraiser for childhood cancer research.

Every year, people raise money with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation by shaving their heads as a sign of support for children enduring the trials of cancer treatment and those who have passed away.

This year will be 10-year-old shaving his head for cancer research. His own story is unique, in that he lost his cousin Kaitlin to cancer in May 2011 and another cousin recently had a tumor removed from his brain.

Zach, a South River Youth Athletics lacrosse player, personally endured a brain hemorrhage in October and is working hard on his own recovery. The 10-year-old is currently just $200 away from reaching his goal of $1,000.

Alongside Zach, a Davidsonville Boy Scout named Jordan will also shave his head at Fado Irish Pub in Annapolis. So far, he’s raised $775.

“I want to do my share to help bring some light to those with childhood cancer and dedicate my baldness to each and every one of them,” Jordan wrote on his official St. Baldrick’s fundraising page.
