Lothian Woman Killed in Crash With Pickup Truck: Police
A Lothian woman, who police say failed to yield when turning onto MD 4, died after a pickup truck hit her car. Charges are possible.

LOTHIAN, MD — A Lothian woman died Thursday afternoon from injuries suffered when she pulled into the path of a pickup truck on MD-4 and her vehicle was hit by a pickup truck, authorities say. The victim was not wearing a seatbelt.
Authorities said they are investigating whether speeding on the part of the pickup truck driver and the use of prescription drugs by the woman who died were factors in the fatal crash.
The two-vehicle crash happened about 1:45 p.m. on southbound Southern Maryland Boulevard (MD-4) at Fishers Station Road in Lothian. Anne Arundel County police say a Chrysler was turning left from the stop sign on southbound Fisher’s Station Road when it crossed the northbound lanes of MD-4, pulled forward into the southbound travel lanes of the highway and stopped.

A 2005 Ford F-150 pickup truck southbound on MD-4 struck the passenger side of the Chrysler before ending up in the woods. Troy T. Wade Jr., 19, of Saint Leonard, was the driver of the pickup truck.
The driver of the 2000 Chrysler 300 — Sharon Marie Alderson, 55, of the 100 block of B Street in Lothian — was declared dead at the scene by fire department personnel. Alderson's body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s office in Baltimore for the autopsy.

Wade was taken to Calvert Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Investigators say the crash was likely caused by a failure of Alderson to yield right of way when entering a through-highway from a stop sign. There is no indication that alcohol contributed to the crash, although speed and prescription drug use are being investigated, police said.
Any charges are pending review by the State's Attorney.
