South River Grad Wins Engineering Competition

Recent graduate Thomas Stefany received a $10,000 scholarship.

Recent South River High School graduate Thomas Stefany has been named the Anne Arundel County winner in the 11th annual Northrop Grumman Engineering Scholars competition.

The statewide scholarship program is aimed at supporting promising high school seniors who intend to pursue a career in an engineering-related field, according to a release.

Stefany received a merit-based scholarship of $10,000 during an awards reception and dinner hosted by Northrop Grumman on June 24. Stefany intends to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering at Georgia Tech.

A committee of Northrop Grumman employees selected the Engineering Scholars winners.

To be eligible for the competition, each scholarship applicant had to have a minimum composite SAT score of 1,700 or ACT score of 27, and a minimum GPA of 3.5. The committee also took into consideration work experience, community involvement and extracurricular activities.
