South River High placed 342nd in the nation in the latest survey of the best high schools by US News.

South River High received high marks in a national survey of the best high schools by US News.
The school placed 342nd nationally and 15th in Maryland in a US News' report. Schools were graded by their student to teacher ratio, how well students are prepared for college, and both the math and student proficiency in subjects such as Algebra and English.
- Student to teacher ratio—18:1 (2,104 students to 118 teachers)
- College readiness—52.1 (66 percent tested by AP; 47 percent passed)
- Algebra proficiency—3.6 (98 percent proficient; 2 percent not)
- English proficiency—3.4 (94 percent proficient; 6 percent not)
In the US News' report, South River placed behind fellow Anne Arundel County Public Schools Broadneck and Severna Park.

Severna Park placed 213th nationally and eighth in Maryland, while Broadneck ranked 256th nationally and 11th in Maryland.

Last week, Patch reported that South River High received the highest marks of any Anne Arundel County School in a Washington Post ranking of schools across the country. In its ranking of schools in Maryland, South River ranked 7th.
