South River High School to Host Chesapeake Bowl Game on Dec. 30

The football game featuring seniors from private high schools in the Mid-Atlantic will pit the North against the South.

It is just 15 days until the Chesapeake Bowl football game. It's a seniors-only sports event for high schools from Virginia to New Jersey. The game pits the North against the South and is nicknamed "The Civil War."

This year, the game will be played at in Edgewater.

Specifically, the North team includes players from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. The South team is made up of players from Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC.

Nearby schools include Archbishop Spalding, Riverside Baptist and DeMatha.

The 2010 Chesapeake Bowl was played at Towson University and the South won, 30-27.

The North is looking to get revenge. The Lehigh Valley Live website is touting Pius X wide receiver Matt Camelletti, a two-time all-American league first teamer with 783 yards and seven touchdowns on 58 catches.

The South boasts players including Gregory Pyke of the Boys Latin School in Baltimore. Pyke is a 6-foot-6-inch, 295-pound tackle. And another lineman, Tyrell Chavis, has already signed with the University of Virginia.

The Chesapeake Bowl kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Dec. 30 at South River High School, 201 Central Ave. East in Edgewater.
