West River Teen Dies From Injuries Sustained In Lothian Car Crash
A 16-year-old teen from West River has passed away from injuries sustained in a Lothian car crash. Three other people in the car were hurt.
LOTHIAN, MD — Charges are pending in the case where four teens were involved in a serious single-car accident along Sands Road near Whittington Drive in Lothian on Sept. 20. The incident occurred at approximately 9 p.m. when the 17-year-old female driver of a 2013 Honda Accord heading southbound was unable to navigate a curve in the road.
The car shot off the road and hit a telephone pole, then rolled and struck a tree. The driver, who is from Bowie, suffered serious injuries. A 17-year-old male from Churchton also suffered serious injuries. A 15-year-old male from Lothian suffered life-threatening injuries and a 16-year-old male from West River ended up passing away from his injuries at the hospital Sept. 29. The 15-year-old and 16-year-old were trapped in the rear seat and had to be extricated by Anne Arundel County firefighters. They were transported with critical injuries by two Maryland State Police Medevac helicopters.
The 17-year-old female driver from Bowie and the 17-year-old male passenger from Churchton were both transported by paramedics to the trauma center at UM Prince George's Hospital Center.

Initially, law enforcement officials believed the primary cause of the crash to be excessive speed. Now, officials with the Anne Arundel County Police Department believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. The Traffic Safety Section is handing the crash investigation and the case will be reviewed by the States Attorney.
