1st Maryland Inmate Dies From Coronavirus: Officials
The Jessup Correctional Institution inmate was in his 60s and had serious underlying medical conditions; he had been hospitalized for weeks.
MARYLAND — An inmate within the Maryland correctional system has died due to the new coronavirus, according to the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. The first death occurred Saturday and involved a Jessup Correctional Institution inmate in his 60s who had serious underlying medical conditions. He had been hospitalized for several weeks, WBAL reported.
On Monday, the department reported a total of 93 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus within its system.

The confirmed cases of coronavirus in the DPSCS system include:
- 18 inmates
- 47 correctional officers
- 3 division of parole and probation employees
- 22 contractual staff
- 1 clinical health employee
- 2 administrative employees
