Blog Post: Temporary Bridge Looks Scary

The next phase of the Route 40 bridge project has begun.

I frequently travel between Howard and Baltimore counties via the bridge on Route 40. It seems as the construction of the bridge has been going on forever. In actuality, that is not true and we will have to deal with the construction scene until 2013.

I've been coming from Baltimore County when there is only one lane and many motorists chose to ignore the merge signs and at the very last minute cut you off because there is no place to go. I've tried to avoid the traffic during rush hours and take the back way through historic Ellicott City. It seems a lot of people had the same idea as me and I was still sitting in traffic.

And now the time has come for us who travel this route by using the temporary bridges. To me these bridges look like something you would build from a Lego set. They don't look like they will support my car, yet alone several cars at one time. I am not afraid to admit that I don't necessarily have a love of bridges. And now I have to use one that looks like it was built for Match Box cars. To say the least, I am scared to death.

If you see someone moving at a snail pace across the bridge, I apologize. On the other hand however, maybe it would be best to speed across it. Either way, if I want to travel from Baltimore to Howard counties and vice versa, I am going to have to get over it. I only hope that other motorists making this same commute are safe, responsible and pay attention. And, I will be anxiously awaiting for 2013 and the completion of this project.
