The Good in Having No Power
No electricity opened my eyes to some things I can't see every day.
For 40 hours during Irene and its aftermath, I had no electricity. Sure, it caused some disruptions and hardships to my daily life, but some good things did come of it:
- Lack of power, allowed me to disconnect from Facebook and my BlackBerry for a few days.
- I spent quality time on my balcony, enjoying the sunshine after the storm and reading.
- I got the chance to shower by candle light.
- I got to know my neighbors better.
- Laying in bed earlier than normal, I realized just how quiet my neighborhood is.
While I am sure I would be less likely to recognize these things if I had gone more three days with power, I am thankful I had the opportunity to see the good even during the bad.
