Doorbell Video Shows What Led To Deadly Woodbine Shooting: Police
Police said the man shot and killed trying to break into a home in Howard County may have thought he was at a different address.
WOODBINE, MD — Doorbell video from the Woodbine home where a man was fatally shot early Sunday morning revealed more about the deadly encounter, according to investigators. Police said the man, who was breaking into the home as he was shot, may have thought he was at a different address, and he may have been drinking.
The deceased — identified as Gerardo Alberto Espinoza, 46, of Chantilly, Virginia — had been staying at a friend's home in the neighborhood, police said.
Around 1 a.m. on Sunday, July 21, he began banging on the front door of a home in the 14000 block of Carriage Mill Road, where he shouted profanity and threats, according to investigators. Police said he was not wearing a shirt, and he did not have shoes on when he appeared at the door.

Espinoza could be heard from the audio portion of the doorbell video shouting things like "I'm going to [expletive] you up," and "You want a piece of this [expletive]," police said.
The homeowner — Charles Dorsey, 56, of Woodbine — can also be heard yelling back for the man to leave, as Dorsey's wife calls 911, according to officials.

The video shows Espinoza fidgeting with the door handle, where after a second, the door releases, and he is shot, police reported.
In the video, Dorsey yells: "He pushed the door open. He pushed the door open."
The Howard County Police Department is conferring with the Howard County State's Attorney's Office about the case. Police said as of Monday no charges have been filed, and at this point the video cannot be publicly released.
