HCPSS Makes Weather Decision For Thursday, Feb. 21

The Howard County Public School System is making a change in the schedule for Thursday.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — All public schools in Howard County will open two hours late on Thursday, Feb. 21. The announcement came Wednesday afternoon from the Howard County Public School System.

Morning child care programs sponsored by the Columbia Association and the Department of Recreation & Parks in public schools in Howard County will also be on a two-hour delay.

Morning sessions of half-day prekindergarten and RECC are canceled Thursday.

Central office will open on time, officials said.

The school system will reevaluate its decision by 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, according to authorities.

Schools were closed in Howard County and around the region Wednesday due to snow; 5.5 inches of snow was measured in Columbia at noon, based on preliminary data submitted to the National Weather Service.

A winter storm warning remains in effect for Howard County until 10 p.m.on Wednesday due to freezing rain that could make roads slippery.
