HCPSS Student-Athletes Will Not Resume Fall Sports Oct. 7

Resuming fall sports will be discussed publicly Oct. 8 at the board of education's meeting.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Maryland school districts can resume high school sports as early as Oct. 7, but Howard County Public School System officials have not yet decided when fall athletics will start for its student-athletes. On Sept. 24, Maryland State Superintendent Dr. Karen Salmon and Gov. Larry Hogan announced two possible options for the start of athletics in the state.

Michael J. Martirano, HCPSS superintendent, will provide additional information and resuming fall sports will be discussed publicly Oct. 8 at the board of education's meeting. In the meantime, HCPSS coaches are permitted to engage virtually with prospective team members for 60 to 90 minutes one day each week through Jan. 22, 2021, excluding school closings or religious observance days.

The schedule for those meeting days are: Mondays, fall sports; Wednesdays, winter sports; and Fridays, spring sports.
