Howard County Police Museum Opening Soon in Ellicott City
The department celebrates more than 60 years of service with museum.
Before Howard County Police Chief William McMahon retires at the end of the month, he has one more ribbon to cut.
The grand opening of the Howard County Police Department Museum is set for Friday morning on Main Street in Ellicott City.
The museum will include exhibits showing the bravery, dedication and sacrifices of the men and women of the Howard County Police Department, according to a statement from police. The department was founded in 1952, according to The Baltimore Sun.
"We believe that preserving our past is an important part of protecting our future," McMahon said in prepared remarks.
The Howard County Police Foundation, Supervisors’ Alliance and Retired Officers Association contributed funding for the museum, police said. Previously, the department said it needed to raise $120,000 for the project. Volunteers will staff the museum.
The ribbon cutting will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 27. The Howard County Police Department Museum at 8267 Main Street in Ellicott City will be open to the public Wednesdays through Sundays.
