Hunter Falls From Tree Stand, Rescued By MD Police Helicopter
An injured hunter who fell 20 to 30 feet from a tree stand in Ellicott City Friday was rescued by a Maryland State Police medevac unit.
ELLICOTT CITY, MD — An injured hunter who fell 20 to 30 feet from a tree stand in Ellicott City Friday was rescued by a Maryland State Police medevac unit.
The hunter had fallen in a heavily wooded and remote area of the Cascade Falls Trail in Ellicott City, state police said in a news release. The victim was in severe pain with several rib fractures and a possible pelvic fracture.
Shortly after 8 a.m. on Friday, units from Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services requested Maryland State Police – Aviation Command to fly the injured person to a hospital after troopers determined an ATV would not be able to reach the patient. An aviation crew from Washington Section, Trooper 2, based out of Joint Base Andrews Air Force Base, configured the helicopter for an aerial hoist rescue and responded to the scene.

The pilots hovered 150 feet above the wooded area where the injured hiker was located, a trooper flight paramedic and Howard County Fire and Rescue personnel readied the patient for the flight to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
Authorities didn't release the name or condition of the injured hunter.
