Carol Loveless, a mother, community leader, small business job creator, and legislative activist, had an Announcement Event in Ellicott City Monday evening at Cacao Lane Restaurant. The event drew about 55 people. I've acquired an advance copy of her Press Release after the event. I would have been there, but I've been ill. Loveless has been very active in Politics for several years in Ellicott City. But she has never run for office. At the event, Karen Wintering, President of DGA, Inc, described Loveless as "a hard working business woman and mother who could always be counted on to support other candidates, attend rallies and knew her way around Annapolis, once waiting eight hours to testify before the State Senate."
Here is some of Carol's comments at the event:
"Speaking to the crowd that often nodded and applauded in agreement, Loveless reviewed some of the 40 tax increases resulting in $20 billion of new tax burdens annually to the residents of Ellicott City and other Marylanders including the gas tax, wind energy surcharge, toll increases and infamous rain tax. More importantly, she added, was the impact of these taxes: the loss of 4600 jobs in April, 5700 in May, unemployment nearly doubling according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 6500 small businesses closing up shop, over 31,000 tax payers fleeing the state, ten of the thirteen Fortune 500 companies leaving Maryland, and the US Chamber of Commerce now describing the economic outlook in Maryland as "poor" as the state has dropped from 20th to 35th place in this category. She also added that the quality of life we enjoy in Howard County to include excellent education, could not be maintained under these conditions. Carol noted that this was her first venture as a candidate in politics, pointing out that she had been raising children, running a business creating jobs and tax dollars and now hoped to bring her business knowledge to the House of Delegates. Asking for support from the crowd, she said: "this is the hardest part...asking for help, asking for money, Conservatives don't do that. But this isn't about me, this is about a cause, saving Maryland."
Notable attendees at the event were: Howard County Delegates Gail Bates and Warren Miller, Republican National Committee Member Nicolee Ambrose, Maryland Republican Party Secretary John Wafer, Howard County Republican Central Committee members Loretta Shields (Chairman) and David Bates. Former Secret Service Agent and candidate for US Congress Dan Bongino was also there.
Delegate Miller spoke to the crowd in support of Loveless stating he would enjoy working with Carol whom he knew to be hard working and had an understanding of how the current agenda in Annapolis was destroying jobs, stating that Annapolis was a "mess" and was sending jobs in mass to Virginia.
