Structure Fire In Ellicott City Contained In 10 Minutes: Official

Firefighters were called to a home in Ellicott City Saturday night for a structure engulfed in flames.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — A small fire broke out near a home in Ellicott City Saturday night, according to officials. It was contained to a shed near a residence, authorities reported, and it did not extend to the house.

At 10:27 p.m., crews said they were working against the wind to control the blaze in the 8100 block of Woodview Road.

A small shed was engulfed in flames, according to fire personnel.

As of 10:36 p.m., crews said that the fire was under control.

It did not extend to the residence, according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.

Because of severe winds, the Howard County fire marshal has issued an open burn ban through the weekend. Burning trash, leaves, yard waste, refuse, brush and building materials is prohibited.

According to the National Weather Service, wind gusts may be up to 28 mph on Sunday in Ellicott City, with a high of 47 degrees and temperatures falling to 27 degrees Sunday night.

Wind gusts were approximately 12 mph in Howard County overnight, according to weather station data from the Maryland Department of Transportation. That was much calmer than Friday, when a 61 mph wind gust was reported in Columbia to the National Weather Service during the nor'easter that led to power outages across the state.

According to BGE, there were more than 10,000 Howard County residents without power as of 12:30 a.m. on Sunday.
