Howard County Student Member Of The Board Of Education Will Be Voted On Next Month

HCPSS students will vote in May to choose the next Student Member of the Board of Education. The 2 candidates are Lamia A. and Antonio C.H.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — The general election to select the 2023-2024 Student Member of the Board of Education will be held May 3.

Lamia Ayaz, a junior from Howard High School, and Antonio Clay-Hardy, a sophomore from Wilde Lake High School, are candidates for the position. They were chosen by fellow students at the HCASC Convention held March 21. Six delegates from each Howard County high school and three from each middle school attended the convention. Sixteen students ran for SMOB candidate, from which Ayaz and Clay-Hardy were chosen as finalists.

All sixth through 11th grade students attending the Howard County Public School System are able to vote in the SMOB election. The new SMOB will be sworn in this summer and will be eligible to vote on all issues except those pertaining to budget, personnel or other restricted matters.
