Black History Month: Stories, Discussion, 'Soul,' And More
Gaithersburg said it will celebrate Black History Month with storytime programs, film screenings, discussions and an official proclamation.

GAITHERSBURG, MD — February is Black History Month and the City of Gaithersburg will host a series of events for residents of all ages. In addition to discussions, a film screening, and displays, the city will also honor one resident in particular.
Mayor Jud Ashman will commemorate the month to Gregory Plummer, who owns Plum’s Hair Gallery in Olde Town. Plummer has operated the shop since 1988 and has helped other people who want to open their own shops, the city said.
"Gregory supports the community by giving free haircuts to children returning to or entering school for the first time, and he offers discounted haircuts to incarcerated individuals at the Seven Locks & Clarksburg correctional facilities," the city said in a news release.
