Montgomery Hospice's 2012 Conference

A brief overview and show of appreciation of the 2012 Hospice Conference. Dr. Robert A, Neimeyer, PhD. guest speaker discusses the challenges in helping the bereaved move from grief to growth.

On September 6th, Visiting Angels was privileged to be among the hundreds of attendees for Montgomery Hospice’s annual conference for area professionals who work in the end-of-life industry.

This year’s conference, “Lessons of Loss: Rewriting Stories of Bereavement”, was presented by Robert A. Neimeyer, PhD.  Dr. Neimeyer, an enchanting and  engaging speaker, touched everyone as he wove his lessons and guided attendees through the processes of grief and loss.

I was reminded of the tremendous service hundreds of Hospice volunteers and staff provide those with life limiting illness.  Montgomery Hospice has a simple, yet profound, mission statement:  To Gentle The Journey.  Professionally and personally I have witnessed the exquisite caring given, so freely, to our families, our neighbors and our friends.  The Hospice worker often goes unchampioned.  How does one quantify services rendered to the heart and spirit of a person, and the consistent presence of knowledge, skill and humanity?   I do not have the words to express the collective gratitude of a community well-served.  Thank you, Montgomery Hospice and Dr. Neimeyer for a memorable, helpful and enlightening conference.  I am looking forward to next year.
