Twitter, Hashtags, & Conferences... Oh My!

Blogger Robin Ferrier talks twitter, hashtags and conferences in her latest Quick Tip.

Today's Quick Tip: If you're holding a conference and you'd like people to tweet about it, make it easy for them to do so AND give you credit for what they're tweeting.

To that end:

  • Include your conference hashtag on all of your printed and online  conference materials.
  • If you have PPT presentations, ask that your presenters include the conference hashtag in the corner of every slide.
  • If you're presenting at a conference, also include your twitter ID (mine is @rferrier) on every slide so that people who are tweeting your words of wisdom can credit you for them and you'll see that they're doing so. (Trust me, you'll likely get new followers out of it.)
  • Verbally repeat the conference hashtag as often as possible.

I've been to too many conferences where a hashtag or organization's twitter ID is mentioned once at the start of the day -- while everyone's greeting their friends, meeting new people, and eating their continental breakfast -- and half the room misses it. So make sure you make it easy for people to identify where they are and who you (the presenter) are or who the organization is behind the conference.
