The Gaithersburg Community Chorus, directed by Hugh Harvey, III, is proud to present its annual spring concert, this year featuring traditional madrigal pieces, German spring songs, and a selection of other popular standards. Included on the program are three madrigal songs, including Now is the Month of Maying and April is in My Mistress’ Face by Thomas Morley, and the traditional Sumer is Icumen In.
The Community Chorus will also perform three German songs, including O Süßer Mai (O Sweet May) by Johannes Brahms, Die Nichtigall (The Nightingale) by Felix Mendelssohn, and Im wundershöenen Monat Mai (In the Beautiful Month of May) by Robert Schumann.
Continuing the spring theme, the performance will include April in Paris by Vernon Duke, with words by “Yip” Harburg, and A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square by Manning Sherwin, with words by Eric Maschwitz. The concert concludes with a Medley from RENT by Jonathan Larson, arrangement by Mac Huff.

Admission to the concert is free. Donations are gratefully accepted. The Community Chorus is sponsored by the City of Gaithersburg Cultural Arts Advisory Committee, and is funded in part by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council, an agency dedicated to cultivating a vibrant cultural community where the arts thrive.
