Gaithersburg Hosts 3rd Annual Active Aging Expo

FROM COUNTY PRESS RELEASE: Montgomery County ranked first on a 2008 list of longest life expectancy in the U.S. at 81.31 years according to Money Magazine.  Staying healthy, active and involved are the keys to successful aging. 

 The City of Gaithersburg Active Aging Expo will be a day filled with energy, educational talks, interactive demonstrations, and preventive screenings.  There will also be facials, massages and the opportunity to explore how to re-invent yourself at any age.  Learn how the arts can help you age more successfully, how to care for your skin to look your best, how to keep your brain active and healthy, ways to reduce stress, how to maintain healthy relationships and romance, and tips for leading a healthier, safer life.

Speakers will include Allison Silberberg, writer, advocate and public speaker, who wrote “Visionaries in Our Midst, Ordinary People Who Are Changing Our World,” and William Schlossenberg, Director of Development and Community Partnerships for the Universities of Shady Grove and former Publisher and Director of Public Affairs for the Gazette Newspapers.

This expo is a partnership between the City of Gaithersburg, the Montgomery Village Foundation, Montgomery County Housing Opportunities Commission and Asbury Methodist Village.  Not-for-profit organizations with information on health and wellness as well as businesses that specialize in serving older adults will also be on hand.  Please note that the Gaithersburg Upcounty Senior Center will be closed on May 2 as all staff will be involved in this event.
