On May 1, 2011 the Gaithersburg Police Department will be joining other law enforcement agencies throughout the region in the aggressive enforcement of the state’s laws as part of the national Click It or Ticket seat belt campaign. Gaithersburg Police officers will be concentrating on seatbelt and child safety seat violations throughout the month of May in an effort to educate the public about the relevant laws in Maryland and the important role that seatbelts play in saving lives.
Maryland law requires that the driver, front passenger, and any other passenger under the age of 16 in a vehicle must wear a seatbelt. A child under the age of 8, less than 4’9” tall and weighing less than 65 pounds is required to be in an approved child safety seat.
