Gaithersburg Holds Off Springbrook 65-51 in Girls Basketball
The Lady Trojans extend their winning streak to 46.
On Friday, February 17, the undefeated and third-ranked Gaithersburg Lady Trojans received a late-season test from a spirited Springbrook Lady Blue Devils team.
The Lady Trojans surged to a 21-12 lead in the first quarter behind the sharp shooting of Senior Colleen Marshall, who tallied 12 points. After the Lady Trojans led 38-28 at the half, the Lady Blue Devils fought back and then hit a long three pointer at the third quarter horn to cut the lead to just 50-45. But, as has become customary for them, the Lady Trojans found enough to hold off the worthy challengers in a rough-and-tumble final regular season home game.
Marshall led the Lady Trojans with 23 points, while Sophomore Janessa Fauntroy and Senior Jackie Jackson added 12 and 11, respectively.
A large and vocal home crowd included Gaithersburg's own Erin Willett, who recently advanced on the hit television show "The Voice."
The Lady Trojans improved to 21-0 for the season, while extending their winning streak to 46 games. The Lady Blue Devils, who had won eight of their last 10, dropped to 14-7 on the season.
Gaithersburg concludes its regular season at Blake at 5:15pm on Tuesday, February 21.
