Gaithersburg Ranked Most Ethnically Diverse Small City In U.S.
The City of Gaithersburg is the most ethnically diverse small city in the U.S., according to a WalletHub study published this month.
GAITHERSBURG, MD — Gaithersburg was ranked the most ethnically diverse small city and the second most culturally diverse city in the U.S., according to a new report from personal finance website WalletHub.
"It has long been a point of pride for us to be at the top of these lists," said Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman. "It's a great honor that also comes with a great responsibility to always do our best to support and engage such a diverse citizenry. This diversity is what makes our City such a vibrant and interesting place."
The organization compared 501 of the largest U.S. cities across three metrics: ethnoracial diversity; linguistic diversity; and birthplace diversity. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale — with 100 being the most ethnically diverse. The city's weighted average across all metrics was then used to calculate its "Ethnic Diversity Score."
