High School Student Arrested After Bringing Gun, Knife To Campus: Principal
A student was taken into police custody Tuesday after bringing a gun and a knife to campus, authorities said.

GAITHERSBURG, MD โ A student was taken into custody on Tuesday after police found a gun and a knife at Watkins Mill High School.
A release by the Montgomery County Police Department said officers responded to the Gaithersburg campus at about 12:16 p.m. for reports of a student in possession of a gun.

The school was placed on hold as officers searched the grounds. Officials later confirmed there was no additional threat to the school.
A letter written by Watkins Mill Principal Vilma Najera detailed that the school was notified that a student brought a gun and knife onto campus after receiving an anonymous tip "from the community."

The letter was provided to Patch by the Montgomery County Public Schools system.
"Montgomery County Police Department and Watkins Mill High School security quickly intervened and escorted the student to the main office to complete a self search," reads the letter.
"The student will also receive discipline in alignment with the MCPS Student Code of Conduct, which is very specific for violations of a serious matter such as this."
Neither the school district nor the police department have provided any identifying information about the student or detailed the type of firearm they recovered.
No motive was provided for why the gun or knife was brought to the school.
