But, in the third quarter, the Lady Trojans' defense and fast-paced offense began to wear down the Lady Blazers. Gaithersburg surged to a 46-27 lead after the third quarter, effectively putting the game out of reach.
The Lady Trojans cruised to the win, 64-42.
Senior Jackie Jackson dominated inside the paint, scoring 27 points to lead the charge, while Senior Colleen Marshall and Sophomore Janessa Fauntroy added 17 and 10, respectively.
At halftime, Gaithersburg Principal Dr. Christine Handy Collins and the home court crowd honored Ellen Anderson and Tyler Pham, who both won state championships in swimming last weekend.
Anderson won the 500 meter freestyle by over 6 seconds while smashing the state record by over 14 seconds. She will attend Northwestern University on a swimming scholarship. Pham won the 200 meter individual medley and holds the state record in the event. Pham, who also finished second in the 100 meter backstroke, earned a scholarship to American University.
