Lady Trojans Win Playoff Opener

Lady Trojans Advance to Round of 16 in Maryland 4A Tournament.

On Monday, February 27, the undefeated and third-ranked Gaithersburg Lady Trojans fought past a game group of Lady Vikings from Walt Whitman in front of a large, enthusiastic crowd at Gaithersburg High School. 

The Lady Trojans took a 12-8 lead after the first quarter but lost Senior leader Colleen Marshall for the entire second quarter after she picked up her third foul late in the quarter. 

However, the deep and experienced Lady Trojans did not flinch as they extended their lead to 32-19 at the half behind extremely strong play from Senior Jackie Jackson, Junior Deja Rollins, and Sophomore Janessa Fauntroy.

Marshall found her groove in the third quarter, as the Lady Trojans built the lead to an insurmountable 51-29. 

Coach Adrian "Hot Dog" McDaniel pulled his starters late in the fourth quarter as Gaithersburg cruised to the win, 63-47.  Fauntroy, Jackson, Marshall, and Rollins paced the Lady Trojans with 17 points, 16 points, 14 points, and 9 points, respectively. 

The Lady Trojans advanced to the Round of 16 while improving to 23-0 on the season and extending their winning streak to 48 games.  The Lady Vikings finished their season at 13-9.

Gaithersburg will host its next game at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, February 29.
