📰 News we're reading

• Gaithersburg Councilmember 'Conditionally Selected' As City's Next Mayor (patch.com) — Gaithersburg residents could soon see Councilmember Lisa Henderson step into the mayor's role if current Mayor Jud Ashman wins a Montgomery County Council seat. Henderson, a lifelong Gaithersburg resident, would be sworn in November 9 and serve through the 2027 city election, while the council prepares to appoint a replacement for her current seat later this month.

• Ikea closing 3 DMV-area Plan & Order stores (fox5dc.com) — Ikea is closing three of its smaller Plan & Order stores in Fairfax, Georgetown, and Annapolis, but the Gaithersburg Plan & Order location will remain open for local shoppers. The company says the closures are part of a broader strategy to focus on affordability, delivery, and online services while keeping other regional stores, including Gaithersburg and College Park, operating.

• Armed Robbery, Gun Incident and Multiple Auto Thefts Included in October 5th MCPD Daily Summary (mocoshow.com) — Montgomery County Police reported three vehicle thefts in the 6th District, which includes Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village, with two of the cars later recovered. The incidents, along Quince Orchard Road, Quince Orchard Boulevard and Muddy Branch Road, were among several robberies, assaults and thefts countywide logged between October 2 and October 5.
