Rockville Rallies To Nip Gaithersburg and Sweep Doubleheader

The Rams top the Trojans 4-3

On Monday, the Rockville Rams hosted the Gaithersburg Trojans for a doubleheader at Manuel Field in Rockville.

The Trojans jumped to a quick 3-0 lead on the strength of runs by Senior TJ Painter (#8 - pinch runner), Sophomore Connor Mitten (#4 - pinch runner), and Senior Mike Toomer (#12).  The Trojans fought gamely to hold the Rams back, with Senior Billy Cullen (#17) picking off a Ram runner at first base to shut down one Rams' rally, and Senior Max Heldman (#2) registering an unassisted double play to stop another.  With the game tied 3-3 after the top of the 7th, the Rams loaded the bases in the bottom of the 7th and scored a run to squeak out the victory 4-3.

Senior Stephen Lee (#21), Cullen, and Toomer shared pitching duties for the Trojans, who dropped to 8-4 on the season.
