Seasonal Concert Series Debuts at Kentlands Mansion
Kicking off "Music at the Mansion," Juilliard-trained musicians intertwine classical/folk music and storytelling for one night only at Kentlands Mansion.
Thanksgiving weekend, Kentlands Mansion is hosting a one-time performance by the eclectic duo Silver Roots as part of its winter concert series - "Music at the Mansion."
Maria Millar (violin) and Shawn Wyckoff (flute) integrate classical and folk tones with storytelling and audience participation through their original compositions and improvisations.
Trained at the Juilliard School in New York, they have performed across Asia, Europe and North America in solo, chamber and orchestral concerts, including on the stages of the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Radio City Music Hall, the Library of Congress, MoMA, the Guggenheim Museum and the Library and Archives of Canada.
Millar's arrangements of Asian, Celtic, Gypsy, Klesmer, Tango, Turkish, jazz, pop, rock and classical music have aired on the Canadian, British and American Broadcasting Corporations and CBS.
Wyckoff is a Maryland Distinguished Scholar of the Arts and a recipient of the Stephen Brewster, John Philip Sousa and National Alliance for Excellence Awards.
Together, they unite classical training with dance rhythms, sing-alongs, audience requests and historical commentary to tell the story of music from around the world.
The performance begins at 8 p.m. on Saturday, November 26 and is appropriate for all ages.
For tickets call the Arts Barn: 301-258-6394.
