VIDEO: Kids On The Run Benefits Summer Camp Scholarship

The event, sponsored by the Montgomery County Road Runners, raised money for the City's summer camp scholarship fund.

For more than 25 years, the Montgomery County Road Runners have done their part to make sure kids are taking steps toward a healthy future with their Kids on the Run events.

This year's event, on a damp morning at Borher Park on May 15, drew about 190 kids, and at least as many parents.

Broken down into age categories and distances ranging from a 100 meter Tot Trot to the 1.2 mile, or 2 kilometer, run for kids under 18.

The club donated a dollar from each registration to Gaithersburg's Dolores Swoyer  Scholarship Fund, which helps pay for summer camp tuition for less fortunate families.

Several runners took part in the Kids Marathon. For 25 days throughout the preceeding month, participants had to run one mile. Then, at the run on Sunday, they completed the final 1.2 miles to make a full 26.2 mile marathon.

The Montgmery County Road Runners Club is one of the largest and most active clubs in the country, their website says.
