Washington Capitals Fire Head Coach Bruce Boudreau

Dale Hunter named new head coach.

Washington Capitals head coach Bruce Boudreau has been fired and former Capitals great Dale Hunter has been hired as his replacement, the Washington Post reports.

The Caps lost on Saturday 5-1 in Buffalo to an injury-riddled Sabres team—the latest loss in a recent slide for the team.

"Saturday night’s loss was Washington second in a row, eighth in the past 11 games and dropped their record to 12-9-1, which was tied for eighth best in the Eastern Conference," the Post reports.

Boudreau had been head coach for more than four seasons in Washington, racking up a regular season record of 201-88-40 in 329 games.

Boudreau was hired on Thanksgiving in 2007.
