Here's your guide to what's open and closed on Thanksgiving in Gaithersburg and Montgomery County.

GAITHERSBURG, MD — Thanksgiving is a time for being grateful for what you have, gathering with loved ones, and — of course — stuffing your face with delicious food.
Until then, it's wise to check what's open and closed in the area. Knowing what services will be available on "Turkey Day" will save you time and a massive headache, especially if you need to make a last-minute grocery run.
Government offices, libraries, schools, museums, recreation centers, and businesses all have their own opening and closing hours during this holiday week. Here's how it shakes out for Montgomery County resident.

From Montgomery County government:
Montgomery County government will observe the following holiday schedule for Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 22:

County Offices – Closed.
Libraries – Closed.
Department of Liquor Control retail stores – Closed.
Recreation – All programs and facilities are closed.
Montgomery Parks – For special programs, events and operating schedule, including Brookside Gardens, ice rinks and tennis centers, visit www.MontgomeryParks.org.
Ride On – Sunday schedule.
Metrorail – Information available at www.wmata.com.
Metrobus – Information available at www.wmata.com.
TRiPS Commuter Store at Silver Spring Transit Center – Closed.
TRiPS Mobile Commuter Store – Closed.
County-provided refuse/recycling pickup – County-provided trash and recycling collection is cancelled November 22 and will slide one day, with the last collection Saturday, November 24.
The Shady Grove Processing Facility and Transfer Station – Closed.
Parking at public garages, lots, curbside meters – Free.
State offices and courts – Closed.
The City of Gaithersburg has also announced its holiday schedule. Take a look at the changes below.
From the City of Gaithersburg:
Wednesday, November 21
- City facilities are operating on normal business hours, with the exception of the following:
- The Activity Center, Casey Community Center and Arts Barn will close at 5 p.m.
- Gaithersburg Youth Centers will be open from Noon to 6 p.m.
Thursday, November 22
- Recycling scheduled for collection will be collected Saturday, November 24.
- Loose leaf collection is suspended.
- The Police Department Administrative Offices are closed. Police patrol will remain on duty. For emergencies please call 911. For non-emergencies, please dial 301-279-8000 for dispatch.
Friday, November 23
- All City facilities are closed, with the exception of the following facilities:
- The Activity Center will open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- The Aquatic Center will open from 5:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
- Police Department Administrative Offices will open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Recycling will be collected as scheduled.
- Loose leaf collection is suspended.
Recycling Information
The collection of recycled materials for residents whose regular recycling day is Thursday, November 22, 2018, will take place the following Saturday, November 24. This includes newspaper, mixed paper, corrugated cardboard, and commingled materials, as well as brush, branches, grass clippings, leaves and other yard trimmings, picked up by the City’s recycling contractor. Recycling scheduled for Friday, November 23 will be collected as scheduled. Loose leaf collection will not take place on November 22 & 23. All areas will be collected the preceding Monday through Wednesday. Regular trash & garbage collection for City residents is handled by private contractors. Please contact your HOA or your private contractor regarding the holiday collection schedule for these materials.
