MoCo Man Sentenced To 25 Years For Fatal 2025 Park Shooting (patch.com) — Residents of Germantown are learning that a 40-year-old local man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the 2025 shooting death of Kendall Butler Jr. near Germantown Square Urban Park on Middlebrook Road. Prosecutors say he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and using a firearm in a violent crime, and he will also face five years of supervised probation after his release.
   

2. Police seek public's help in identifying burglary suspect caught on doorbell cam (mymcmedia.org) — Montgomery County police are asking Germantown residents to help identify a burglary suspect caught on a Ring doorbell camera at a home near the 12900 block of Climbing Ivy Drive. No one was hurt, but property was stolen, and detectives say anonymous tips to Crime Solvers could earn a reward of up to $10,000.
   

3. New MARC train service offers Brunswick-Baltimore connection for UMD commuters (dbknews.com) — A new MARC train service now links Frederick County and Baltimore through stops including Germantown, giving local commuters another option to reach College Park and downtown Baltimore without driving. University of Maryland students say the line could ease traffic headaches and offer a more relaxing, affordable way to get to campus.
   

4. 8 BioHealth Capital Region Companies Named Among TIME's World's Top HealthTech Companies of 2026 (biobuzz.io) — A Germantown-based company, Senseonics, has been named one of TIME's top HealthTech firms worldwide for its long-term implantable glucose monitoring system. It's one of eight BioHealth Capital Region companies honored, underscoring how much cutting-edge medical technology is being developed right in and around Germantown.
