MoCo Man Sentenced To 25 Years For Fatal 2025 Park Shooting (patch.com) — A Germantown man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the 2025 shooting death of Kendall Butler Jr. near Germantown Square Urban Park off Middlebrook Road. Prosecutors say Michael Aaron Lynn pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and firearm charges, and will also face five years of supervised probation after his release, closing a major violent-crime case for the neighborhood.
   

2. New Catfish Sandwich Coming to MCPS Menu Gets Rave Reviews (mocoshow.com) — Students at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Germantown got an early taste of a new Chesapeake Bay catfish sandwich that will soon appear on MCPS menus. Superintendent Thomas Taylor and food reviewer "Mr. 8 That" both gave the sustainable, locally sourced sandwich high marks during a celebration of the school's recent "America's Healthiest Schools" All-Star recognition.
   

3. Respiratory Illnesses On The Rise: See What's Circulating, Find Vaccines In MD (patch.com) — Germantown residents can get flu shots this season at locations like the American Diversity Group clinic on Middlebrook Road and Sally Ride Elementary School, as part of Montgomery County's vaccination offerings. Health officials expect a moderately severe flu season, with COVID-19 and RSV activity still relatively low but rising, and they urge residents to schedule vaccines through county clinics or local pharmacies soon.
   

4. DMV Girls Basketball Coaching Changes: St. Andrew's, Elizabeth Seton and Blair Name New Coaches (newsbreak.com) — Girls basketball fans in Germantown will recognize the local Lady Panthers AAU program as a key pipeline in new coaching moves across the DMV. A coach with Germantown Lady Panthers ties is taking over at St. Andrew's, while a current Lady Panthers player, Clarksburg standout Destiny Turner, joins his roster as several area private and public schools reset for the 2026–27 season.
