Rain Doesn't Dampen Spirit of Lymphoma Research Foundation

Each fall, Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences welcomes the Lymphoma Research Ride to its campus in the Montgomery County Agricultural Reserve. While the ride itself was cancelled this year due to rain, the Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) hosted a party for its volunteers and riders in Barnesville’s gym.
The event was emceed by WUSA 9 Anchor Bruce Johnson, who was recently diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. The annual event allows LRF to raise critical funds and awareness while providing a fun and meaningful day for cancer survivors, caregivers, and community.
"With nearly $5.5 million raised to-date, the Lymphoma Research Ride is truly changing lives," said Dr. Bruce Cheson, MD, FACP, FAAAS, Georgetown University Hospital Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, Past Chair of LRF's Scientific Advisory Board, and co-founder of the Lymphoma Research Ride. "After 12 years, we are excited to continue to see the Ride grow and look forward to being able to help more individuals and their loved ones, not only in the DC community but nationwide, who have been affected by lymphoma.”
Michael Werner, Chairman of the Lymphoma Research Foundation’s Board of Directors, presented Head of School Susanne Johnson and Director of Facilities Bernie Weintraub with an award as an Outstanding Partner for Team LRF, saying, “Thank you for opening your school your hearts and your home to us. We couldn’t do this ride without you.”
“The mission and the work of the Foundation is critical in the fight against cancer. Your efforts as an org and as individuals coming together to raise funds and awareness to battle Lymphoma is truly an inspiration,” Johnson said. “We look forward to continuing this partnership for years to come.”
While they could not be out on the wet roads, many riders still came, donned their race jerseys, and joined volunteers for breakfast and lunch while a D.J. played dance music. Remaining food was donated to the Frederick Rescue Mission as well as St. Peter’s Just Lunch program at nearby Poolesville High School.
